Volunteers provide companionship, play with older children, prepare meals, wash dishes, and help in other ways that an extended family member or neighbor might. Volunteers of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to join us.

- This position requires flexibility, good communication skills, access to reliable transportation to and from the Hilltowns, and our volunteers should be comfortable with babies and young children
- We can reimburse volunteers for miles driven to and from the family’s home at $0.34 per mile.
- Training includes an interview, background check, and shadowing an experienced volunteer
“We want to express our profound gratitude for all you have done for our family over the last two months. Your help was so important to us as first time parents.”

College
Nursing, public health, development, and other student interns support outreach and our program operations. Past projects have included creating a domestic violence awareness campaign, researching the value of home visiting programs (and doing home visits), initiating a partner agency program to get critical supplies into the hands of at-risk families, and doing diaper, formula and backpack drives. Topics and projects are flexible and based on the students’ course of study or class curriculum.
Community Service Hours
Does your workplace offer time off for volunteering? Do you need to complete community service in exchange for receiving state benefits? Volunteering can work around your schedule.
High School
Students requiring community service hours, scouting projects, national honor societies, and community service clubs like Project 360 and Key Club have volunteered at the Village Closet and hosted diaper, formula, toy, and coat drives. Students 14 and under need a parent or guardian present while volunteering; students 15-17 need written permission from a parent or guardian.

Diversity Council
We recognize the need to better represent the communities we serve across all levels—board, leadership, staff, and volunteers. We are dedicated to creating an environment where every voice is heard, and every person feels valued because hate has no home in our Village. Our team is committed to doing the work necessary to transform our practices and our culture.
Our diversity advisory council will guide and review our practices, policies, and recruitment strategies. Council members will evaluate how effectively our programs reach and serve families from diverse backgrounds, ensuring our efforts are effective and equitable. A primary focus will be ensuring that our Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers reflect the diverse backgrounds and experiences of the families we serve.
We are committed to amplifying all voices at the table, fostering an environment where leadership and decision-making are informed by a broad range of perspectives. By ensuring diverse voices are included at every level, from Board members to frontline staff and volunteers, we can be more responsive and relevant to the needs of our families.
