Who We Are
Our board comprises 15-25 diverse members from across Western Massachusetts, representing various ages, backgrounds, income levels, areas of expertise, identities, and geographic regions throughout our service area.
Board Member Expectations & Responsibilities
- Passion for our mission and genuine enthusiasm for our programs
- Active participation in board meetings, committee work, and special events
- Informed engagement through staying current on programs, initiatives, and organizational developments
- Fundraising involvement in campaigns that support our mission
- Financial contribution at a level that is personally meaningful, plus helping to secure additional support through your networks
- Collaborative relationship-building with fellow board members to foster consensus
- Adherence to policies regarding confidentiality and conflicts of interest
- Fiduciary oversight including review of annual financial statements
Time Commitment
- Board meetings occur quarterly, at a central location. Times and dates are determined by the BOD members’ schedules and are scheduled 6 months in advance.
- Committee participation based on your interests, skills and our organizational needs
- Special event attendance on a rotating basis to ensure board representation at all organizational activities, including pop-up events, open houses, fundraisers, volunteer fairs, and legislative meetings.
Board Recruitment Priorities:
It Takes a Village welcomes members of any age, race, ethnicity, country of origin, gender identity, background, income level, religion, sexual orientation, or ability. The executive committee is also working to fill some current gaps in representation and professional experiences of our board members.

Personal Representation Gaps:
- BIPOC Individuals
- Members of the LGBTQIA+ community
- Individuals in which English is a second language (or language other than English is spoken at home)
